If you are still using an old boiler, it might be time to consider replacing the system. Boilers typically last 10-12 years before they need to be replaced. Many signs can tell you when your boiler needs replacing, including:

Leaking water from the base of the unit

Does your boiler make loud banging noises? Is the pilot light on constantly, even when it is not heating water? Do you have to run a tap for hot water after using an appliance such as a dishwasher or washing machine? If so, this could be another sign that there is low pressure inside the unit.

The burner is not releasing any heat

Does your system work harder than usual? For example, does it run longer to get the job done, or is there an increase in water temperature when you are not using hot water? And if so, this could be another sign that your boiler needs replaced.

A build-up of sediment in the bottom of the tank

Is your system working to heat the water, but not as efficiently as it once did? Is there a lot of noise coming from the unit when it runs, or is it slow to respond at times? When you turn on a tap and only cold water comes out. If these are signs that your boiler needs replaced, now would be a great time to switch.

If you notice any of these signs, it might be time to consider replacing the unit, as accumulating costs can be more expensive than installing a new and efficient boiler system.
